JSPL, one of our first corporate clients, invited us again this year to conduct their annual quiz. However, this year they had a completely different concept and scale in mind. According to unreliable sources and unconfirmed reports, it was the first time a corporate organized a quiz for its employees in Jeopardy format. With questions being the answers and answers being the questions we got underway in February. We leveraged the digital medium to the fullest when we conducted the preliminary quiz online. This gave us an opportunity to reach out to maximum participants as we provided a window of 12 hours on a Friday during which participants could answer 100 questions within an hour. Over 600 participants across Jindal Group (JSPL, JSL, JSAW, JSW and arttdinox) were a part of the action from Barbil, Angul, Raigarh, Tamnar, Delhi-NCR, Patratu, Hisar, Jajpur, Raipur, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Sonepat, Paradip and Chennai. The Average score across all locations was (slightly short of 1st division 😛 ) a commendable 58.6 with Angul finishing on top of the average score table with 67.3.
From the eliminator prelims we selected 27 teams or 54 participants for the Quarter Finals. Now was the time for some real jungle action. JSPL’s plants are located in the forest dominated area of Eastern-India. We covered over 1500 kilometers in 5 days across Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh to complete the Quarter Final leg. As is the format with Jeopardy, each round has three teams, thus we did 9 Quarter Finals, complete with Jindal Double and questions on Heavy Industry, Steel and Infrastructure business along with questions on the Jindal group. After a month’s gap we conducted 3 Semi Finals with the winners of each Quarter Final Round. The Semi-Final round at Hissar saw the young engineers from JSL face stiff competition from the marketers from JSAW. However, a couple of great answers towards the end saw JSL claim a spot in the final. The next Semi-Final at Angul had the JSPL team of Amits cruising to the final spot with ease. And in the last Semi Final at Barbil, the marketers from Jamshedpur also had an easy outing in the park. The line up for the final: Hissar vs Jamshedpur vs Angul. With the introduction of buzzers in the final, the Jindal Jeopardy became a much faster paced quiz with unique rounds such as The Other Bookies, He Said She Said, Billion Dollar Babies and the flavour of the season, Land of Scams. The Jamshedpur team made early inroads in the finals thanks to some sloppy buzzer work by Hissar and lack of any by Angul. The second round only widened the gap between Jamshedpur and the second placed team from Angul, who were benefitted by a few high weightage answers. The last round, with all its drama, required all teams to apply strategy and outsmart their opponents. Thus the teams asked for extra time to execute their strategies well. A request that the quizmaster had no qualms in obliging (as it meant more questions and prizes for the audience). This round offered its share of drama too as Angul and Hissar were busy revising and re-revising their strategies to get the better of each other. And Jamshedpur, feeling lonely at the top, enjoyed the drama and later the spoils. Some questions from the quiz: 1.
